Introduction to the Legal Profession

A longstanding service tradition of the Tallahassee Barristers, this annual program welcomes and introduces first year law students to the Tallahassee legal community and provides necessary information to help them succeed as law students and eventually young lawyers. Topics discussed have included

Annual Membership Crab Boil

The official kick-off event for the activity year, the Crab Boil brings together attorney, judges and law students in an informal setting to network, meet new colleagues and re-establish old acquaintances while enjoying steamed crabs, barbeque and other dishes prepared by Barristers members.

Annual Thanksgiving Basket Project

Every November, the Tallahassee Barristers provides Thanksgiving baskets to families of lesser means through the Second Judicial Circuit Guardian Ad Litem program. Thanks to the generosity of Barristers members providing food items or monetary donations, our organization has provided 15-20 Thanksgiving baskets over the past several years.

Holiday Party Gift Drive

Every December, the Tallahassee Barristers celebrates the Holidays by collecting toys, gifts and other donations to provide a wonderful holiday for those less fortunate. Barrister donations have provided holiday cheer for families affiliated with local organizations such as Toys For Tots and The Boys Choir of Tallahassee.

Tallahassee Barristers Scholarship Contest and Luncheon

The Scholarship Luncheon is the culmination of the annual Tallahassee Barristers Scholarship Contest, open to law students throughout the State of Florida. Finalists for the Scholarship Award have an opportunity to make a brief presentation of their paper before Supreme Court Justices, Judges and other members of the Tallahassee Legal Community. The Barristers present a monetary award to a student attending a law school in the State of Florida.

Presidents’ Ball

The annual banquet marks the close of the Barristers activity year, recognizes outgoing officers of the organization and features the induction of the newly elected Executive Board. A fine meal is shared with members of the legal community and their guests and the evening features a key note address made by distinguished members of the legal community such as Justice Peggy Quince, Attorney Ben Crump and past ABA and NBA President Dennis Archer.
